✶ INSPIRATION
Between the love story, color palette, and out of this world characters…the visceral reaction I had to Mandy lasted throughout the whole film. Mandy will be the “high” that I’m forever chasing.
Albeit terrifying and not a gang I’d personally want to get on their bad side in real world, interestingly enough the appearance of The Black Skulls was a ride I never wanted to end. “Blood for blood.” You know the scene. The incendiary neon light flares. The tainted acid. The caressing of Brother Swan’s face. The massive blood shed that was about to to take place. Instantly I knew my homage artwork to The Black Skulls was to feature blood and copious amounts of neon pink. In setting the base and tone of my poster, I took a usually jovial color such as neon pink and twisted it into a splattered nightmare. It was important to me to capture the base essence of the film for the chaotic, blood-soaked, fever dream it is.
The poster signifies Red's story and the trials he conquered. In the depths of the shadows shows the arrival of the Black Skulls and the pink-splattered nightmares they bring to reality. The blood imagery signifies Red's fight to avenge the love of his life. The triangles and geometric patterns mirror the end scene of the film where Red travels into the depths of Sand's temple. And lastly...revenge.
